Getaway to NYC

At the end of February, Matt and I stole time away together in NYC for 4 blissful days! It was the longest amount of time we have been away alone since the kids were born... way overdue. We had three wonderful mornings of sleeping in, ate amazing food, saw amazing sites, and had lots of down time. We are sentimental toward NYC for many reasons, one of which was that we lived and worked in Jersey early in our marriage and we spent many weekends in the city, as well as, both having work- travel to the city. Despite the typical chaos of the city, we found rest and refreshment and we are thankful to both sets of grandparents for staying with our kids while we were gone!

"Top of the Rock"

My favorite meal: Chipotle-crusted Tofu, over roasted brussel sprouts and asparagus, with a side of pureed sweet potato topped with sliced almonds, onion, and pomegranate with a mole sauce. Candle 79, a vegan restaurant in the Upper East Side. Amazing!

On Matt's bucket list: Peter Luger Steakhouse in Brooklyn. Yeah, I ate the bread, he could not being gluten-free (but between you and me, it was totally delicious NY bread!). It's the #1 steakhouse in the world! It was pretty awesome.

Becco Restaurant on Restaurant Row... Northern Italian. We went to this same restaurant about 8 years ago and it just happened to be near our hotel. Matt had pork smothered with herbs, tomatoes, and peppers. Below: I had a Salmon dish with roasted brussel sprouts.

A gluten-free restaurant in West Village, Matt got pizza and beer. I got a homemade risotto with mushrooms, chopped parsley, organic chicken, and pine nuts. It was awesome.

We saw "My Name Is Asher Lev" off-broadway. I read the book for a college philosophy of art class and loved it so much. I was not sure if Matt would like the show or not, but he ended up loving it too!

Time Square: Look for us on the big screen above.

View from "Top of the Rock", Rockefeller Center. The building with the green number 4, is where Matt worked on occasion when he worked for Conde Nast Publishing.
